Coastal Flood Advisory Extended as Rain Soaks Jacksonville

Shelf cloud rolling in ahead of a storm

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Wet, breezy weather stays parked over Jacksonville on Monday, and the coastal flooding threat now stretches into midweek.

The National Weather Service office in Jacksonville has a Coastal Flood Advisory in place until 4 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4. A rip current statement runs on the same timetable. Earlier forecasts had the coastal advisory for Duval County ending Monday evening.

Water could pool on low streets, in parks and in parking lots near the water, and a few roads may close for a while. Never drive around a barricade or into standing water of unknown depth.

The heaviest rain is aimed at the coastline and the I-95 corridor. Rain totals of 2 to 3 inches through Monday are possible across parts of the region, and a few spots may near 4 inches.

Monday calls for showers likely and a breezy day with a high near 79. Showers continue into Monday night with a low in the upper 60s.

At the beaches, breakers of roughly 6 to 8 feet are expected from Ponte Vedra south, and the rip current risk is high. If a current pulls you out, do not fight it; float and work your way sideways along the beach. Lifeguarded areas are the safer place to swim.

Gusts along the beaches have been running around 20 to 25 mph under a steady east-northeast wind, which keeps pushing water toward the shore and feeds the rough surf.

Tuesday brings only a slight chance of showers and a high near 80, and Wednesday turns mostly sunny with a high near 81. Thursday stays warm, with a high near 82 and a slight chance of storms.
