West Jacksonville is set to welcome a new Whataburger location on June 9. The restaurant will open at 6251 103rd St., occupying the site that formerly housed an Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar, located just west of Blanding Boulevard.

The renovation of the former Applebee’s building, constructed in 1995, cost approximately $1.9 million, with $1.6 million dedicated to the renovations and an additional $300,000 allocated for site-clearing efforts. This extensive upgrade is expected to provide residents and visitors with a fresh dining experience.

Whataburger will officially open its doors at 11 a.m. on June 9. The new establishment will operate 24 hours a day, with both the dining area and drive-thru available around the clock. The restaurant features a modern double drive-thru system, as well as digital menu boards that enhance the ordering experience.

Customers will have the convenience of placing their orders via kiosks inside the restaurant or online through Whataburger’s dedicated website and mobile app, which also offers delivery options. Breakfast items will be available from 11 p.m. to 11 a.m., making it easier for early risers and night owls to enjoy their favorite breakfast dishes.

This location will have a seating capacity of 76 and spans a 5,000-square-foot area. It is managed by Key Operator Markus Garnett and will employ about 90 staff members, with Operating Partner Austin Foster overseeing daily operations. The restaurant is owned by Silvercreek Group LLC, which acquired the 1.69-acre property for $1.7 million in December 2023.

The new Whataburger will be the 15th location in Northeast Florida, indicating the chain’s continued expansion in the region. Whataburger is renowned for its diverse menu, which includes a variety of burgers, sandwiches, fries, salads, drinks, shakes, breakfast items, desserts, and snacks. The chain is headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, and has built a loyal customer base since its inception.

This development marks a significant investment in the West Jacksonville community, bringing new job opportunities and a popular dining option to the area. The transformation of the former Applebee’s site demonstrates the growth of the Whataburger brand in Florida and its commitment to providing quality food and service to customers.

The anticipation for the opening continues to build among local residents who have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of this much-loved fast-food chain. As the grand opening draws near, Whataburger aims to offer a seamless and satisfying dining experience, which has become a hallmark of the brand nationwide.
