News Summary

6S Development is moving forward with plans to establish a Tesla Collision Center in Southwest Jacksonville, aiming to cover 3.85 acres at 6655 Blanding Blvd. The facility will span 28,120 square feet and is expected to cost approximately $2.28 million. Designed by Tectonics Design Group, the center will focus on servicing electric vehicles, following the demand for specialized support as electric vehicle ownership rises. This site will cater exclusively to Tesla models and aims to attract clientele given its strategic location.

Jacksonville – 6S Development, a commercial real estate company based in Dallas, is seeking to obtain the necessary permits to construct a Tesla Collision Center in Southwest Jacksonville. The proposed facility will be located at 6655 Blanding Blvd, covering a total area of 3.85 acres.

The development plan entails the demolition of an existing office building, garage, and storage shed to clear the land for the new structure. Once completed, the Tesla Collision Center will span approximately 28,120 square feet, with an estimated project cost of $2.28 million. Tesla Inc., the tenant for this center, is associated with its main manufacturing site located at the Fremont Factory in California.

Tectonics Design Group, an architectural firm based in Reno, Nevada, has been chosen to design the new facility. The services provided at the Tesla Collision Center are specifically tailored to cater to electric vehicles, underscoring that services will not involve traditional elements like exhaust systems, fuel tanks, or emissions from combustion engines. The electric motors utilized in Tesla vehicles also require significantly less maintenance.

The property intended for development is currently owned by Robert N. Hawkinson and James E. Hawkinson LLP. The pair acquired the land in 1998 from Sir Goony Golf of Blanding Blvd. Inc. The proposed location sits strategically between Timuquana and Collins roads, east of Interstate 95 and west of Roosevelt Boulevard, making it easily accessible. It is also in proximity to several luxury car dealerships, including brands like BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Lexus.

In January 2024, 6S Development reached out to the local utility provider, JEA, to evaluate service availability for both this site and another potential location in North Jacksonville, although the latter is not currently under permit review. Initially, the JEA application suggested ambitions for a larger collision center measuring 36,000 square feet, which has now been refined to the designated 28,120 square foot structure.

Currently, Tesla operates a larger 45,200-square-foot sales, delivery, and service center situated at 11650 Abess Blvd in the Atlantic North shopping area of East Arlington. This center provides essential services such as cosmetic repairs on parts including bumpers, trunks, side mirrors, wheels, and glass.

As of now, there are 51 Tesla Collision Centers operational across 21 states, which includes four centers located within Florida in Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando, and Tampa. Additionally, Tesla maintains collaborative partnerships with various third-party collision support centers, further extending their repair and service capabilities.

Tesla Collision Centers are specifically owned and operated by Tesla Motors Inc., focusing on light collision work and structural repairs for its electric vehicles. As electric vehicle ownership continues to rise, the demand for specialized service facilities like the proposed Tesla Collision Center is expected to grow, reflecting the changing landscape of the automotive industry.
