Jacksonville Beach Remembers Bob Ennis: A Life of Love, Service, and Community
In the sunny town of Jacksonville Beach, the community is coming together to celebrate a remarkable life. Bob Ennis, who was born on September 8, 1943, in Providence, Rhode Island, has left behind a legacy filled with love, service, and dedication to his family and community.
A Cherished Family Man
Bob was the son of James Lionel Ennis and Agnes Oberg Ennis, and he was preceded in death by his dear wife, Bonita Power Ennis. Their bond was a testament to true love, and even though she is no longer by his side, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew them. Bob is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Ennis Mesic, who resides in Ponte Vedra, Florida, along with her husband Elvir and their two beautiful daughters, Ayla and Elina. His son, Jeffrey Power Ennis, is also carrying on the family legacy in Tampa, Florida, with his wife Stacia and their sons Liam and Conor. It’s clear that family meant the world to Bob, and he often shared joys and laughs during family gatherings.
A Life of Service and Career
Bob’s journey took him to Rollins College, where he played baseball on a scholarship, but his life took a brave turn when he served in the U.S. Navy. This experience instilled values of discipline and commitment, which he carried throughout his life. After his military service, Bob worked hard to earn a master’s degree from the University of Florida, paving the way for a successful career.
In 1977, Bob and a few colleagues founded the accounting firm Ennis, Pellum & Associates. Over the next four decades, Bob poured his heart and soul into the firm, providing expert advice and support to many clients until he decided to retire in 2018. His professional life was nothing short of admirable, reflecting his dedication to hard work and integrity.
Passions Beyond Work
Outside the realm of accounting, Bob was an avid outdoorsman. His passions included hunting and fishing, where he enjoyed serene moments surrounded by nature. Golfing was another love of his, and it became a way to spend quality time with friends and family on the green. Not one to shy away from new activities, he also took up pickleball, an engaging sport that kept him active and entertained.
But above all, Bob treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren. The laughter and memories created with Ayla, Elina, Liam, and Conor brought him unparalleled joy — a true mark of a devoted grandfather.
A Strong Community Advocate
Bob’s commitment to community service was evident in his role as a devoted member of Palms Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville Beach. He actively participated in various volunteer initiatives, notably at the BEAM Mayport Market, where his contributions helped many families in need. His heart for service reflects the kind of man he was—always looking to lend a helping hand to those around him.
Memorial Services and Celebration of Life
The community will soon gather to remember Bob’s life at memorial services held at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, led by Pastor Bryant Anderson. The date for this special event will be announced shortly. Additionally, a celebration of Bob’s incredible journey will take place at Palms Presbyterian Church, allowing family and friends to share stories and honor his memory.
In lieu of flowers, Bob’s family has kindly requested that donations be made to BEAM (Beaches Emergency Assistance Ministry) at their Mayport Market Food Bank location. This gesture of giving continues Bob’s legacy of helping others, a cause he evidently cared about deeply.
As a lasting tribute, Bob’s family has elected to include the Bible verse Micah 6:8 (KJV), which beautifully encapsulates his dedication to serving both family and community: “He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God.”
Bob Ennis’s essence will live on through the many lives he touched, both personally and professionally. His spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who remember him — a beacon of love, strength, and community spirit.
