Jacksonville Welcomes New Live Music Venue FIVE

News Summary

FIVE, Jacksonville’s latest live music venue, officially opened in the historic Five Points area, showcasing state-of-the-art amenities and a commitment to revitalizing the local music scene. The inaugural concert featured TikTok artist BoyWithUke, and upcoming performances include local talents and popular acts. Despite facing earlier delays, FIVE is set to become a central hub for community gatherings and artistic expression.

Jacksonville has officially welcomed its newest live music venue, FIVE, which opened its doors on May 13, 2024, after a series of construction and permitting delays. Located in the historic Five Points area at 1028 Park Street, the venue is set to become a notable destination for music lovers in the region.

The inaugural concert featured BoyWithUke, a popular artist widely recognized for his presence on TikTok. With a capacity of 1,250, FIVE is equipped with modern features, including an expanded balcony space, state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems, and upgraded amenities like a VIP loft situated in the original projection booth. Notably, the venue retains the historical exterior and marquee of the original Sun-Ray Cinema, which has housed various theaters and nightclubs for nearly a century.

The venue’s opening comes in response to the closure of several local businesses, including the original Sun-Ray Cinema, which ceased operations on July 6, 2024, after relocating to Tampa. FIVE aims to revitalize Jacksonville’s music scene by offering a diverse lineup of artists and creating unique live experiences that foster community connections.

Upcoming performances at FIVE include local talent Lil Poppa, indie-alt rock band Turnover, pop duo Aly & AJ, and Grammy-nominated group Bowling For Soup. To enhance engagement, the venue has collaborated with local businesses like Tiger Records, where music fans can participate in scavenger hunts by discovering hidden show tickets among vinyl records.

FIVE has faced challenges since its announcement, including 17 show cancellations or postponements due to construction delays. Initially expected to open in January 2025, the venue’s schedule was pushed back as renovations progressed. Now operational, FIVE operates under the management of Marathon Live, which has plans to expand to additional venues within Jacksonville’s Rail Yard district.

The layout of FIVE includes a general-admission section and a designated area for seated viewing during performances, although specific seating arrangements are yet to be determined. This versatile setup is intended to cater to a wide variety of performances and audience preferences.

The establishment is seen as a significant milestone for Jacksonville’s cultural landscape, emphasizing the city’s commitment to fostering a vibrant live music scene. With its combination of historical preservation and modern amenities, FIVE is poised to become a central hub for artistic expression and community gathering in the area.

As Jacksonville continues to evolve, the opening of FIVE represents a hopeful revival for the local music community, encouraging residents and visitors alike to engage with a diverse array of performances and artists.
