George O. Kasierski, a revered high school teacher and junior varsity football coach, has passed away at the age of 83. He is remembered for his dedication to education and sports, inspiring countless students and athletes throughout his career. Following his retirement, he volunteered to support local food services in his community. His legacy is preserved through his family and the many lives he touched during his years in education.
George O. Kasierski, a beloved high school teacher and junior varsity football coach, died on June 18, 2025, in Jacksonville, Florida, at the age of 83. His passing marks the end of an era for many students and athletes whose lives he touched over his decades of dedication to education and sports.
Born on November 4, 1941, in Webster, Massachusetts, George was the son of Edmund and Lena Kasierski. He grew up in Northbridge, Massachusetts, and graduated from Bartlett High School in Webster in 1960. Following his passion for science, George attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology in 1964. He later pursued a Master’s degree in Natural Science from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and earned a National Science Foundation grant to further his studies in the field.
George’s teaching career began at Grafton High School in Grafton, Massachusetts, where he taught high school science. He later held a teaching position at Westborough High School in Westborough, Massachusetts. Known for his engaging teaching style, he utilized colorful chalk illustrations to elucidate complex biological concepts, a skill he developed during his college years. In addition to his teaching duties, George served as a junior varsity football coach, inspiring many young athletes with his enthusiasm for the sport.
George’s passion for football began at an early age. He once captained and was the MVP of his high school football team. He married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Gaumond, on August 21, 1965. Outside of his professional pursuits, he was an avid runner, completing over 30 marathons, including more than 20 Boston Marathons, with an impressive personal best time of 2 hours and 38 minutes. George also enjoyed golfing, traveling, playing cards, and cherished moments spent with family.
After retiring to Dennis, Massachusetts, and eventually to Jacksonville, Florida, George remained committed to giving back to his community. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels and the Hands of Hope Food Pantry, helping those in need throughout the Cape Cod area.
George is survived by his wife Patricia and their two sons, Stephen Kasierski of Berkeley, California, and Scott Kasierski of Jacksonville, Florida, along with daughter-in-law Cathy Kanaday. He is also survived by a grandson, Thomas Kasierski, of Houston, Texas, and a granddaughter, Trish Kasierski, of Jacksonville, Florida. His family connections extend to his brother Edmund Kasierski, sister-in-law Claire Kasierski, and nephew Kevin Kasierski, all residing in North Grosvenordale, Connecticut, as well as brother-in-law Roger Gaumond of Jacksonville, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, nephew Edmund Kasierski, Jr., and sister-in-law Ann Gaumond.
Following his cremation, George’s family plans to host a celebration of his life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Hands of Hope Food Pantry and Outreach Center in West Harwich, Massachusetts, or to a local food pantry of choice, in honor of George’s philanthropic spirit.
George O. Kasierski’s legacy lives on through the many lives he impacted during his career as an educator and coach, as well as through the family and friends who remember him fondly.
