JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville University has announced the hiring of Colin Munro as the new offensive coordinator for its men’s lacrosse program, a decision welcomed by Head Coach John Galloway who believes Munro’s expertise will significantly enhance the team’s offensive capabilities.
Munro joins Jacksonville after a successful tenure as the offensive coordinator at Colgate University, where he led the team to its first Patriot League championship since 2015. Under his guidance, Colgate’s performance soared, finishing 18th in offensive efficiency during his time there. The offensive unit he developed ranked fourth in the nation for scoring and sixth in assists per game, with the team scoring 15 or more goals in eight different games last season.
His appointment is aimed at building an effective offensive strategy that could potentially elevate Jacksonville’s competitive edge in the lacrosse arena. Galloway expressed optimism that Munro’s skills will help in nurturing talent within the program, energizing both the players and the wider community.
Colin Munro’s background as a player adds to his credentials as a coach. He had an impressive collegiate career at Georgetown University, where he played in every game for three seasons and contributed to back-to-back Big East championships in 2021 and 2022. Additionally, Munro earned recognition as a two-time Big East All-Academic Team selection, reflecting his prowess not just on the field but in the classroom as well.
Before transferring to Georgetown, Munro began his college lacrosse journey at the University of North Carolina. His varied experiences in NCAA programs have equipped him with a deep understanding of different coaching philosophies and team dynamics.
Beyond the collegiate scene, Munro’s lacrosse career further expanded during five summers playing Junior A lacrosse in Canada with the Coquitlam Adanacs. His tenure with the Adanacs was historic, as he played a pivotal role in securing the Minto Cup Championships in both 2016 and 2018. Notably, Munro is recognized as the only American-born player to achieve this prestigious title, adding a unique element to his already distinguished career.
Adding to his coaching resume, Munro interned with JM3 Sports, where he hosted the Virtual Lacrosse Summit, a remote coaching clinic that featured prominent professional players and coaches, emphasizing his commitment to growth within the sport.
Upon joining Jacksonville University, Munro expressed a strong desire to build positive relationships within the program and the local community. He emphasized his enthusiasm for the program’s momentum and his determination to contribute to its ongoing growth. With the rallying cry “Phins Up!” he aims to instill a collective spirit of teamwork and determination into the team moving forward.
Colin Munro’s blend of coaching experience, proven success as a player, and commitment to building community connections marks a new chapter for Jacksonville’s men’s lacrosse program. His role as offensive coordinator is anticipated to bolster the program’s aspirations and further establish Jacksonville as a competitive force in collegiate lacrosse.
