News Summary

The Florida Department of Transportation has revealed upcoming lane and ramp closures on Interstate 10, part of a widening project scheduled to enhance traffic flow and safety. The closures will occur overnight from October 26 to October 30, affecting multiple on-ramps and off-ramps in Jacksonville. Detours are being set up to redirect traffic to minimize disruptions. This multi-million dollar project is expected to help alleviate congestion in the area while improving the highway’s capacity by its completion date in fall 2026.

Jacksonville – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has announced a series of lane and ramp closures on Interstate 10 (I-10) between I-295 and I-95. This initiative is part of an ongoing widening project aimed at improving traffic flow and enhancing safety on one of Jacksonville’s major thoroughfares. The closures will take place from Sunday, October 26, to Thursday, October 30, with primary work hours scheduled overnight from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

On the first of the closures, scheduled for Sunday, October 26, the Lane Avenue on-ramp to I-10 West will be temporarily closed. Drivers exiting southbound on Lane Avenue will be redirected via Normandy Boulevard to access I-295 North before reaching I-10. Meanwhile, northbound drivers on Lane Avenue will continue along Commonwealth Avenue to take I-295 South to the interstate.

In addition to the closure on the Lane Avenue on-ramp, the Irene Street on-ramp to I-10 West will also be closed from October 26 through October 30. Motorists traveling on Irene Street will be detoured to Edison Avenue, where they will turn right on Forest Street to access I-10 West.

On Monday, October 27, and Tuesday, October 28, closures will affect both the I-10 West and East off-ramps to McDuff Avenue. Drivers heading westbound to McDuff Avenue will be detoured via Luna Street and Lenox Avenue. For eastbound drivers, the detour will redirect them via Stockton Street, Irene Street, Edison Avenue, and Forest Street.

The closures will further extend to the I-10 West off-ramp to U.S. 17 (Roosevelt Boulevard) on Wednesday, October 29, and Thursday, October 30. Drivers wishing to reach Roosevelt Boulevard will be redirected via McDuff Avenue. Additionally, the Cassat Avenue on-ramp to I-10 East will be closed, with northbound travelers advised to use Highway Avenue, Luna Street, and Rayford Street to access I-10 East. Southbound drivers aiming for I-10 East can utilize Lenox Avenue and Rayford Street for their detour.

The widening project, which has an estimated cost of $174.5 million, is being executed by Superior Construction. The project is slated for completion by fall 2026, barring any weather issues or unforeseen delays. It aims to significantly enhance the capacity of I-10 and reduce congestion in the area.

Motorists are advised to plan ahead and allow extra travel time during the scheduled closures. It’s important for drivers to be aware of the detours and follow signage on the road to ensure a smooth travel experience while the construction is underway.

The necessity for these lane and ramp closures highlights the ongoing efforts by transportation officials to improve infrastructure and accommodate growing traffic demands in Jacksonville. As urban areas continue to evolve and expand, such projects become essential in maintaining efficient transportation networks.
