Jacksonville

An elderly woman has died following a two-car collision on Roosevelt Boulevard on Tuesday afternoon. The accident involved a small SUV driven by the woman, aged between 80 and 90 years old, and a pickup truck.

The incident occurred shortly after 1:30 p.m. as the woman was driving northbound on Roosevelt Boulevard. According to reports, she attempted to make a left turn onto St. Johns Avenue when her vehicle was struck by a southbound pickup truck.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) is currently investigating the accident and has yet to determine which driver had a traffic signal at the time of the collision. Both drivers were transported to local hospitals for treatment following the crash.

Unfortunately, the SUV driver was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. The driver of the pickup truck sustained minor injuries and is expected to recover. Notably, the SUV driver was not wearing a seatbelt during the incident, while the pickup truck driver was secured in their seat. Airbags deployed in both vehicles at the moment of impact.

There were no indications of impairment or any involvement of additional vehicles, according to the JSO’s preliminary investigation. In the aftermath of the crash, the southbound lanes of Roosevelt Boulevard have been temporarily closed to facilitate an ongoing investigation.

This tragic incident marks the 87th traffic fatality in Jacksonville for the year 2025, underscoring ongoing concerns regarding road safety in the area.

Authorities encourage all drivers to practice safe driving habits, including wearing seatbelts and adhering to traffic signals. This incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers present on the road, particularly for elderly drivers who may be more vulnerable in traffic situations.

Further updates from the JSO regarding the investigation may provide clarity on the circumstances surrounding the collision and ensure that proper measures are taken to prevent similar accidents in the future.
