The shooting occurred around 2:30 PM at an apartment complex located on the 7700 block of Southside Boulevard. Responding to reports of a woman being shot, officers from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) arrived on the scene to find the victim in a dire state.
Initial investigations indicate that the shooting was a result of a domestic dispute between the victim and her husband. The suspect displayed a handgun and fired on several occasions, striking the victim approximately five times. Officers detained the suspect promptly upon arrival to the scene.
Detectives are actively investigating the incident and have been canvassing the area for video surveillance footage to piece together the events leading to the shooting. Witnesses have also been interviewed to gather more information that might aid in the investigation. In a separate incident, on May 26, 2025, another man in his mid-20s suffered critical injuries following a shooting outside his apartment at the Westwood Apartments on South Lane Avenue around 3:30 AM. Officers discovered the man with multiple gunshot wounds and he was quickly transported to a local hospital by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD).
While the circumstances surrounding the second shooting remain unclear, the JSO is investigating and has interviewed witnesses to establish a timeline of events. No arrests have been made in either incident, prompting growing concerns regarding community safety, especially as this marks the third shooting occurrence in Jacksonville’s westside within just 12 days.
The recent surge in shootings has raised alarm among Jacksonville residents, leading to discussions surrounding public safety measures and the need for heightened police presence in the area. Both the JSO and community leaders are working to address these concerns and assure the public of their safety as investigations continue into both shooting cases.
