Upon arriving at the scene, a patrol officer discovered the woman, aged between 60 and 70, with a gunshot wound to the head while she was sitting in a chair on the sidewalk. Despite the immediate efforts of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

More than 100 people were gathered for the block party at the intersection of Grothe Street and Eaverson Street when the shooting took place. The atmosphere quickly turned chaotic following the gunfire.
