Jacksonville Man Arrested for Serial Rapes After 25 Years of Investigations

Jacksonville, FL – Jason Leonard Blount, 52, has been arrested in connection with multiple sexual assaults after a lengthy investigation spanning 25 years. Blount was taken into custody on July 1, 2025, after his DNA was linked to several unsolved rape cases in Duval County following his arrest related to a robbery in Orlando.

In April 2000, Blount committed his first known assault, where he threatened a woman with a knife and forced her to perform oral sex at a tennis court. This incident was reported immediately to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO), which launched an extensive investigation into the series of sexual assaults attributed to Blount over the years.

Following the initial case, further incidents were discovered, including a rape that occurred on September 4, 2002. In this instance, Blount entered a victim’s apartment under the guise of needing to use her phone, subsequently assaulting her. Information gathered from police reports indicates a disturbing pattern where Blount ambushed women outside their homes, including an attack on a woman while she was jogging.

As investigations continued, police identified Blount as a possible suspect after DNA evidence linked him to four sexual battery cases. In addition to the assaults for which he has been charged, an elderly woman, who has since passed away, was also identified as a victim of Blount’s criminal conduct.

Blount now faces three counts of sexual battery related to these incidents. The JSO has noted that there may be more victims who have not yet come forward, particularly from the Jacksonville and Orlando areas. Authorities are encouraging anyone with information to reach out and assist in the investigation.

Currently, Blount is being held without bond at the Duval County Jail. His arraignment is scheduled for July 23, 2025. A spokesperson for the JSO expressed a commitment to seeking the harshest penalties against Blount to prevent any further offenses.

This recent arrest marks a significant development in a case that has haunted the Jacksonville community for decades. The police department’s use of DNA evidence has brought closure to some victims and offers hope to others who have been affected. Investigators continue to urge anyone who may have additional information or who may have been a victim in similar circumstances to come forward in order to facilitate justice.

The long-term pursuit of justice in these cases underscores thecommitment of law enforcement to safeguard the community and hold offenders accountable for their actions. The success of this investigation demonstrates the effectiveness of technological advancements in forensic science and the dedication of officials to solving cold cases.

The community remains vigilant as the legal process unfolds for Blount, with many hoping it will lead to a more profound understanding of the impact of such crimes and the importance of support for victims.
