Jacksonville – Public high schools in the Jacksonville metro area have received high honors in recent rankings, showcasing the quality of education in the region. Stacker, a data compilation service, prepared this list based on data from Niche. The evaluation criteria for these rankings included seven weighted factors such as academic performance, culture and diversity, sports, clubs and activities, resources, and feedback from parents, teachers, and students.

Leading the list is the Nassau County School District in Florida, which boasts an enrollment of 1,407 students and a student-to-teacher ratio of 20:1, earning it a Niche grade of B+. Close on its heels is Duval County Public Schools, with an enrollment of 631 students and a ratio of 21:1, also rated B+. Other notable districts include St. Augustine with 100 students at a 6:1 ratio, St. Johns County School District with 1,784 students at 22:1, and Clay County School District enrolling 1,666 students, maintaining a ratio of 20:1—all receiving a B+ grade.

In addition to the top performers, several schools in the Jacksonville metro area have made significant improvements. Schools within the Clay County School District saw upgrades such as those that now have enrollments of 1,852 and a 19:1 student-to-teacher ratio, earning them a Niche grade of B+. More notable upgrades in this district include schools with enrollments of 1,810 and 845 with respective ratios of 19:1 and 15:1, achieving grades of B+ and A-. The Nassau County School District has also seen growth in its performance, with one school now having an enrollment of 1,025 and a student-to-teacher ratio of 19:1, earning an A grade.

Meanwhile, St. Johns County School District has various schools achieving even higher standings, with several rated A and A+, enrollments ranging from 1,928 (23:1) to 2,455 (23:1).

As public school districts gear up for graduation ceremonies, which will run from May 16 to the end of the month, this time serves to highlight the accomplishments of students and engage family members in the celebration of academic progress.

To navigate changing educational demands, Duval County Public Schools is set to alter its scheduling from an eight-period format to a seven-period schedule starting in the 2025-2026 academic year. This decision aims to address budgetary challenges, projecting savings of $8-$10 million, while still striving to uphold student achievement. Under this new schedule, middle school students will engage in seven classes daily, utilizing a 3×3 block structure to ensure a well-rounded academic experience.

These developments reflect the ongoing commitment of educational institutions in the Jacksonville area to enhance student learning and resource management during challenging times. As local schools receive recognition for their strengths and prepare for further adjustments, the focus remains on fostering a supportive educational environment for all students.
