Jacksonville, FL – The community of Jacksonville is mourning the passing of Rosanna Lewis Gerard, a beloved teacher’s assistant at Land Mark Middle School. She died at the age of 67 on June 20, 2025, at the Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital.

Background and Early Life

Rosanna was born on July 16, 1957, in Harlan County, Kentucky, to Ray Lewis and Irene Howard Lewis, both of whom have since passed away. At the young age of nine, her family moved from Harlan County to Jacksonville, where she later established her life and career. Known for her dedication to education and children, Rosanna worked as a teacher’s assistant, making a significant impact on her students and staff alike.

Community and Family

In addition to her work at school, Rosanna was a devoted member of the South Jacksonville Church of Christ. Her faith was central to her life, and she previously attended the Partridge Church of Christ during her time in Harlan County. Family and community were extremely important to Rosanna; she was known as a God-fearing woman who cherished her loved ones.

Rosanna leaves behind her husband, Robert Gerard, who resides in Jacksonville. She is also survived by her son, Jason Gerard, and daughter-in-law, Sandra, both also from Jacksonville. In addition to her immediate family, Rosanna is mourned by three siblings: Susan Cloud and her husband Charles of Middleburg, FL, Connie Hill of Jacksonville, and Judy Nell of Lewisburg, KY. A proud grandmother, she is survived by three grandchildren: Jakob Gerard, Ryan Gerard, and Lilah Gerard, all residing in Jacksonville.

Visitation and Funeral Arrangements

Visitation for friends and family will take place on Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the chapel of Harlan Funeral Home. The burial will subsequently occur at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Jacksonville, with Harlan Funeral Home handling all arrangements in honor of Rosanna Lewis Gerard.

Legacy

Rosanna’s passing has left a profound void in the hearts of those who knew her. As a teacher’s assistant, she had a lasting influence on the lives of countless students and is remembered for her unwavering dedication to education and family. The community of Jacksonville and beyond will continue to hold her memory in high regard as they reflect on her contributions and the love she shared with everyone around her.
