News Summary

Marlon Ramel Sago, a Jacksonville resident, has been convicted of attempted murder following a road rage shooting in 2021. He faces a potential life sentence, with a minimum of 25 years. The incident involved Sago firing multiple shots at another driver, resulting in serious injuries. The case highlights ongoing concerns about road rage and gun violence in urban areas.

Jacksonville – Marlon Ramel Sago, a 35-year-old resident of Jacksonville, has been found guilty of attempted murder following a road rage incident that occurred in 2021. The State Attorney’s Office confirmed that Sago faces a potential sentence of up to life in prison, with a minimum mandatory sentence of 25 years set to be imposed in July.

The case centers around a shooting on November 3, 2021, when Sago fired multiple shots at 37-year-old Bryan Steven Woodham while both men were stationary in traffic at the intersection of Merrill Road and Interstate 295 in Arlington. Sago struck Woodham in the arm and chest, leading to serious injuries. After the shooting, Woodham pursued Sago and crashed into the back of his vehicle in an attempt to prevent him from escaping the scene.

Following the incident, Sago fled the area on foot. However, eyewitnesses were able to provide descriptions of him, which helped law enforcement in their investigation. A search warrant executed on Sago’s vehicle uncovered multiple shell casings, a gun holster, and a receipt from a local fast-food restaurant, which further tied him to the crime. Surveillance footage from the same restaurant validated the presence of his vehicle at the location, indicating that he had visited shortly before the shooting.

Law enforcement later found items of clothing linked to Sago near the area where he was seen fleeing. In a significant turn of events, a 9mm pistol was discovered in a nearby retention pond, and DNA evidence analyzed by authorities matched Sago to the scene of the shooting. Despite the overwhelming evidence, Woodham, the victim, unfortunately, passed away, as noted in his obituary, which adds a tragic layer to this case.

This is not Sago’s first encounter with the law. In 2009, he was implicated in a separate shooting incident at Twisted Sisters bar in Jacksonville Beach, where he shot two men after an argument escalated. Following that incident, Sago turned himself in to law enforcement days later, facing charges of two counts of attempted murder and one count of providing false information to officers. However, the State Attorney’s Office declined to prosecute Sago in 2011, citing issues with witness credibility as the primary reason.

In light of the evidence presented during the trial for the 2021 incident, Sago’s prior background and his involvement in the earlier shooting have raised concerns about his actions and decisions. The upcoming sentencing will reflect the seriousness of the crime and the loss of life resulting from Sago’s behavior.

The case draws attention to the broader issue of road rage incidents and gun violence in urban communities, highlighting the significance of addressing these problems vigorously through law enforcement and community initiatives. As the justice system prepares to sentence Sago, the ramifications of his actions continue to resonate with the victim’s friends and family, underscoring the lasting impact of such violent encounters.
