Jacksonville – Power has been restored to over 1,000 customers on the west side of Jacksonville after a brief outage on Sunday afternoon. The outage began at 1:41 p.m. and was addressed by JEA, the city’s electricity provider, which dispatched a troubleshooter to identify the cause of the disruption. JEA estimated that power would be restored by 3:22 p.m., and by 2:51 p.m., power was reportedly back on for all affected customers.

The outage on Sunday was part of a broader issue, as JEA has experienced a series of outages impacting thousands of customers over recent weeks. On one previous occasion, more than 12,500 customers were affected by power outages, with weather conditions, particularly lightning strikes, being the primary cause. Notable areas that suffered from these previous outages included San Jose, where 6,502 customers lost power, the Eastside and Urban Core, Bowden Road with around 200 outages, and over 500 customers in the Arlington/Alderman Park area.

In a separate incident also occurring on a Sunday night, approximately 1,700 JEA customers encountered another power problem when a car crashed into a pole in the Duclay Forest neighborhood around 7:40 p.m. The crash took place at the intersection of Blanding Boulevard and Morse Avenue. While it is unclear what led to the car crash, JEA reported that crews would need to replace the damaged pole before restoring power to affected customers. This repair work was expected to be completed by 2 a.m. on Monday.

JEA has expressed gratitude to its customers for their patience during these power restoration efforts. The utility company continues to monitor the situation and responds to outages as they arise, emphasizing the importance of safety and efficiency in their service restoration protocols.

Power outages can have various causes, but recent incidents highlight the ongoing impact of weather conditions on electrical services in Jacksonville. JEA has been vigilant in addressing these issues, focusing on ensuring that electricity is restored safely and promptly.

Residents within the affected areas are encouraged to report any further outages and stay informed through JEA’s official communication channels. As weather patterns continue to evolve, JEA remains committed to keeping the community informed and prepared for potential disruptions in service.
