News Summary

Hakeem Robinson, a 26-year-old rapper known as ‘Ksoo,’ is set for jury selection in a highly publicized murder trial that has raised tensions in Jacksonville. Charged alongside Leroy Whitaker, both face accusations related to the shootings of two young men, highlighting the gang violence issue in the area. With dashcam evidence and witness testimonies expected to be pivotal, the community awaits the trial’s outcome as families seek justice amidst ongoing concerns about gang-related activities.

Jacksonville – Hakeem Robinson, a 26-year-old rapper known as “Ksoo,” is scheduled for jury selection on Monday morning in a murder trial that has garnered national attention and raised tensions within Jacksonville’s rap and gang communities. Robinson, along with co-defendant Leroy Whitaker, 24, is facing charges related to two separate shootings that resulted in the deaths of Charles “Lil Buck” McCormick Jr. and Adrian “Lil Bibby” Gainer Jr.

The trial’s significance stems from the alleged ties between the murders and rising gang violence in Jacksonville, involving factions such as ATK, KTA, 6block, and NHG. The victims, McCormick, 23, was killed in 2020, while Gainer, 16, was murdered in 2019. The circumstances surrounding these killings have drawn community attention and concern about gang-related activities in the area.

On Friday, both defendants attended their final pretrial hearing, where a judge named Tatiana Salvador did not determine whether there would be a single jury for both Hakeem Robinson and Leroy Whitaker or separate juries for each. The prosecution has dropped enhanced charges linked to criminal gang activity for the current trial. However, both Robinson and Whitaker are still charged with murder and multiple gun-related offenses.

Prosecutors believe that Hakeem Robinson was the shooter in McCormick’s murder and plan to use dashcam footage as part of their evidence in court. This evidence may be challenged by Robinson’s defense team, who argue that the individual depicted in the footage may not resemble Robinson due to size discrepancies. Additionally, a cooperating witness, Dominique Barner, who has pleaded guilty, admitted to providing the getaway vehicle and implicated Robinson in the murder, stating that the motive stemmed from an alleged disrespect towards Robinson’s deceased half-brother, Willie Addison.

Further complicating the case, Hakeem Robinson’s brother, Abdul Kareem Robinson Jr., was initially expected to face trial alongside him but will now have a separate court appearance. Adding to the drama, their father, Abdul Robinson Sr., has been arrested for allegedly assisting in the escape of the suspects shortly after the shooting and is anticipated to testify against his son in court.

Adding to public scrutiny, Hakeem Robinson has faced backlash for his behavior on social media following the incident, which included mocking comments pertaining to the murder incident, potentially influencing public perception of both him and the case. In the aftermath of the McCormick trial, Robinson is also set to face another trial regarding the murder of Adrian Gainer Jr. as the legal proceedings continue to unfold.

The community is on edge as the trial approaches. With jury selection set to begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, both families affected by the violent incidents await justice while the legal system prepares to address the severe implications of gang violence on the streets of Jacksonville.
