Jacksonville Families Allege Fraud Against Monument Company

Jacksonville families are raising concerns over Remake Stones, a local headstone company, claiming they have been subject to fraud due to delays and poor-quality memorials. Multiple families have come forth alleging broken promises regarding the delivery of headstones, with some reporting significant issues following their purchases.

Recent reports initiated by the Ask Anthony team highlighted the grievances of two families who each spent substantial amounts of money on custom headstones. Roscheika Mickens is among those affected; she paid $600 for a custom headstone meant to commemorate her late cousin’s 40th birthday. The company initially assured her that it would be delivered by February 21. However, the delivery did not occur on schedule, and Mickens claimed she was informed it would only be ready in August. Upon its arrival, Mickens was dissatisfied with the quality of workmanship, describing it as “thrown together.” Despite Remake Stones owner Raynard Rogers agreeing to a $200 refund in writing, Mickens reported that she has yet to receive this refund.

Another family, led by Francella Melton, paid for her mother’s headstone in early March with the expectation that it would be ready by Mother’s Day. Unfortunately, the headstone was delayed for months and arrived with a shattered photo. Melton expressed her distress over the way the situation was handled, labeling the experience as disrespectful to her mother. Furthermore, Melton has found communication with Rogers to be nonexistent following the headstone’s delivery.

Victor Pantchenko is another troubled customer who reported paying $1,679 in July 2024 for a headstone dedicated to his mother, which was supposed to be completed by August. He later learned that the headstone had been damaged but received no further explanation or communication from the company. Pantchenko has since opted to purchase another headstone from a different vendor and has not received a refund or any additional information from Remake Stones.

Ronnie Norman, who paid over $1,000 as a deposit for his father’s headstone, reported experiencing similar delays and a lack of communication. He received numerous excuses regarding the delays, including claims of health issues and equipment problems. The frustration from affected families is palpable, with many asserting that they have attempted to reach Rogers through various means, including phone calls, texts, and personal visits, but have generally received very few responses.

Anthony Austin, who has also tried to contact Rogers, noted that he has primarily received responses through social media, often asserting that there is nothing to discuss. These experiences have left numerous families in Jacksonville feeling abandoned in their time of grief when they should have received respectful and timely service.

For those who believe they have been wronged by a monument company in Florida, there is a formal complaint process through the Florida Division of Funeral, Cemetery, and Consumer Services. Those wishing to file a complaint are encouraged to gather relevant documentation, including receipts, records of communication, and any pertinent evidence to support their claims.

As the situation continues to unfold, it remains imperative for families to be informed about their rights and options in dealing with such service-related grievances. The allegations against Remake Stones highlight the importance of accountability in the funeral services industry, particularly for businesses that cater to families during their moments of sorrow.
