Standout Performances for the Week

Now, let’s highlight some remarkable athletes who made their mark in the past week. A freshman golfer made quite an impact by shooting a fantastic 37, leading the Spartans to victory against Christ’s Church. Talk about a debut performance!

Meanwhile, over in boys soccer, a junior goalkeeper from Episcopal showcased some incredible skills by recording three shutouts in just one week, defending against Orange Park, Paxon, and Christ’s Church. Those defensive moves were on point!

In track and field, an exceptional senior athlete not only won the 400-meter hurdles at the Sam Burley Hall of Fame Invitational in Miami but also set a school and meet record with an incredible time of 52.67. That performance also marked the fastest high school time in the U.S. at that moment in 2025. Now that’s a record worth celebrating!

Softball fans have something to cheer about too! A freshman pitcher was a standout by going 2-0 with an impressive 18 strikeouts in just 14 1/3 innings, allowing only one earned run. Her contributions led the Bartram Trail softball team to a perfect week, showing off her talent and skill on the mound!

Florida Times-Union Athlete of the Week

Speaking of outstanding performances, Taylor Salerno from Fletcher has snagged the title of Florida Times-Union Athlete of the Week for Northeast Florida, thanks to her phenomenal play in women’s lacrosse. With four goals and an assist in a thrilling 17-7 win against Atlantic Coast, Salerno has quickly proven herself as a force to be reckoned with. A total of 11 goals, three assists, and six draw controls so far this season? Impressive!

Her voting victory saw her outshine fierce competitors like Henry Arthur from University Christian boys basketball and Abigail Ciarletto from Sandalwood girls wrestling. A big congratulations to Salerno!

What’s Next?

As we gear up for the next round of voting for the next Athlete of the Week, which covers the period from February 17-22, the nominations are already pouring in from a range of sports, showcasing a rich mixture of talent throughout our local high schools.
