Fire officials from the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD) reported that four of the affected units suffered significant fire damage, while one unit was primarily affected by smoke. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries connected to the incident.

Scott Gray, one of the residents who lost his home, described the traumatic experience, stating that he was awakened by his fiancée’s screams as they noticed smoke filling their apartment. He explained that the smoke infiltrated through the ventilation and walls, prompting them to evacuate quickly along with their two dogs.

Currently, 17 individuals, including 13 adults and one child, are receiving assistance from the Red Cross due to the fire. Scott Gray and his fiancée are staying with family members while they seek support in rebuilding their lives after the loss of their belongings. Gray noted that the fire broke out on his birthday, compounding the unfortunate circumstances of the day.

The fire occurred in the 600 block of Oaks Hollow Court, and local authorities are investigating its cause, with the State Fire Marshal involved in the inquiry.
