Jacksonville, Florida – A 21-year-old woman was shot twice at a Dunkin’ Donuts drive-thru on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, around 5:35 p.m. in an incident that has left the local community in shock. The woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.
The shooting occurred at the Dunkin’ Donuts location at 7005 Gate Parkway. The victim had reportedly been visiting her ex-girlfriend’s parents’ house to discuss her ex-girlfriend’s mental condition and to retrieve her cellphone. Tommie Lee Taylor III, 48, the stepfather of the victim’s ex-girlfriend, was giving her a ride, under the impression they were headed to her home.
Upon arriving at the Dunkin’ Donuts, an argument broke out inside the vehicle, leading the victim to attempt to exit the car while still in the drive-thru lane. After she exited, Taylor allegedly shot the victim twice—once in the left shoulder and the other shot grazing the back of her head—before driving away from the scene.
Witnesses in the area reported hearing two gunshots and observed the victim fleeing the vehicle. The brave woman managed to enter the Dunkin’ store and alerted employees that she had been shot. Shortly after, first responders arrived and transported her to a local hospital for immediate care.
Authorities arrived at the scene and began searching for Taylor, who was later located driving a vehicle matching the description provided by witnesses. A police pursuit ensued on the Northside, culminating in Taylor being taken into custody after law enforcement executed a PIT maneuver to safely disable his vehicle.
Taylor has since been charged with second-degree attempted murder and aggravated fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement. During the investigation, law enforcement reported that Taylor was uncooperative and refused to acknowledge his Miranda rights when questioned.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is actively continuing its investigation into the incident, with multiple avenues being explored to determine the complete circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Dunkin’ Donuts has stated that the franchisee is fully cooperating with law enforcement during the ongoing investigation, emphasizing their commitment to safety in their establishments.
This incident marks a troubling event in the Jacksonville area, raising concerns over gun violence and personal safety within public spaces. Local law enforcement agencies have assured the community that they are dedicated to addressing these issues proactively.
As investigations continue, the community is left to grapple with the aftermath of this incident, and the focus will undoubtedly be on ensuring such violence does not recur in the future.
