Jacksonville – A 24-year-old man, Hector Munoz-Ochoa, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder following the fatal stabbing of his mother, Lilian Ochoa-Menjivar, who was 55 years old. The incident occurred on Saturday, August 25, 2025, at approximately 3:05 PM.

Upon arriving at a residence on Peach Drive, officers from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) discovered Ochoa-Menjivar suffering from multiple stab wounds. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead at the scene shortly afterward. Authorities quickly identified Munoz-Ochoa as the primary suspect in the case but refrained from disclosing the specific details of how he was connected to the crime.

This tragic incident marks a continuous pattern of troubling behavior from Munoz-Ochoa. In November 2020, Ochoa-Menjivar contacted law enforcement, reporting that her son had threatened her life with a knife during a heated argument. At that time, Munoz-Ochoa claimed he was having an “out of body” experience and spoke of grievances regarding his mother’s treatment towards him. Although he was arrested and faced charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, those charges were ultimately dropped, and the case was closed.

Further complications arose in December 2021 when Munoz-Ochoa was involved in another violent incident. He was arrested for aggravated battery after allegedly cutting a man below the lip during a domestic dispute. Following this altercation, mental health professionals evaluated Munoz-Ochoa and deemed him incompetent to stand trial due to mental illness, resulting in his commitment to a mental health treatment facility.

The investigation into the recent stabbing incident is ongoing, with JSO emphasizing their dedication to pursuing justice in collaboration with the State Attorney’s Office. As part of coping with this tragic loss, the family of Ochoa-Menjivar has set up a GoFundMe page to aid in covering funeral expenses and to facilitate the return of her body to Honduras.

As this case unfolds, authorities encourage anyone with pertinent information to reach out to JSO at 904-630-0500. Munoz-Ochoa is currently being held in Duval County Jail and is scheduled to make his first court appearance for arraignment on September 16, 2025.
