Nathaniel Davis, a 23-year-old man from Jacksonville, is charged with first-degree murder in the tragic death of 22-month-old Zamora Foe. The case has shocked the community, leading to demands for justice and better child welfare initiatives. Davis’s girlfriend, Zayla Goodwin, faces charges of aggravated manslaughter. Evidence points to severe abuse as the cause of Zamora’s death. The State Attorney’s Office is pursuing the death penalty against Davis, causing an outcry for accountability and care for children.
In a tragic turn of events, a 23-year-old man from Jacksonville named Nathaniel Davis is now facing the serious charge of first-degree murder in connection with the untimely death of 22-month-old Zamora Foe. The State Attorney’s Office for the Fourth Judicial Circuit of Florida has confirmed that they will be pursuing the death penalty against him. It’s a shocking case that has left the community grappling with heartbreak and disbelief.
It all began on September 10, 2024, when Zamora was rushed to the hospital after being found unresponsive. It was an eight-day battle for her life, but the little girl sadly passed away on September 18. After a thorough investigation, the cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma, and authorities ruled it a homicide.
Davis, who was identified as the boyfriend of Zamora’s mother, Zayla Goodwin, was taken into custody for his role in this heartbreaking incident. Goodwin herself is now facing charges of aggravated manslaughter as investigators sift through the details surrounding Zamora’s death. According to Goodwin, Davis claimed to have found Zamora unresponsive on the mattress, which raises questions about what truly occurred in their home.
Just days before this tragic event, the couple had moved into their residence on September 5, 2024, after relocating from Hilliard, Florida. Along with at least one other roommate, they settled into what should have been a safe environment. However, disturbing evidence suggests that this was not the case. Goodwin mentioned that Zamora had experienced a fall in the bathtub just a week prior, which she believed was affecting the toddler’s mobility and eating due to a swollen mouth.
During the investigation, law enforcement officers discovered a devastating scene. Numerous bloody bandages, blankets, and diapers were uncovered in the home, indicating something was gravely wrong. Goodwin only reported minor injuries; a bruise to Zamora’s arm, back, and head was attributed to the bathtub incident. However, a member of the First Coast Child Protection Team noted that any reasonable caregiver would have immediately sought medical attention for a child in Zamora’s precarious condition.
As the investigation deepened, the Medical Examiner’s findings revealed another shocking development – methamphetamine had been detected in Zamora’s system at the time of her death. This, along with discoveries of fractures to both legs and one arm, as well as extensive bruising all over her body, has painted a dark picture of what life was like for the toddler.
Initially, both Davis and Goodwin faced charges of neglect due to their failure to seek medical care for Zamora’s grave injuries. However, following a grand jury indictment, the charges against Davis were elevated to the severe charge of first-degree murder. Currently, both individuals are being held without bond at the Jacksonville County Jail.
The news of this case has sent shockwaves throughout Jacksonville, leaving many residents in disbelief about the tragedy that has unfolded. It’s a heartbreaking reminder of the importance of vigilance and care for the most vulnerable members of our community – our children.
As the case moves forward, the community continues to grapple with its implications, calling for justice for Zamora and support for child welfare initiatives to ensure that no other child faces a similar fate.
