Jacksonville – A series of tragic crashes on Interstate 295 have left one person dead and multiple individuals injured this week, causing significant disruptions to traffic in the area.
The most recent incident occurred on June 16, 2025, when a crash on I-295 South near Atlantic Boulevard resulted in all lanes of the roadway being blocked. Video footage from the scene showed a car flipped over in the middle of the road, highlighting the severity of the incident. Emergency officials were present to clean the area and redirect traffic, and the affected lanes were finally reopened around 7:15 PM the same day.
Earlier in the week, on Wednesday morning, a 33-year-old man lost his life in a separate crash on I-295. The man was driving northbound around 3:35 AM when he took the exit to Alta Drive but veered off the roadway, crashing into a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and the northbound ramp of I-295 was closed while the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) investigated the deadly crash.
In another incident on Tuesday evening, a motorcyclist died following a tragic collision on I-295 North at the 103rd Street exit. At approximately 4:38 PM, a man driving a stolen pickup truck was traveling southbound in the wrong direction when he struck the motorcyclist, causing the rider to fall. Shortly after, a 2021 Acura sedan collided with the motorcycle and the rider who was lying in the roadway. The motorcyclist, a 66-year-old man from Jacksonville, was pronounced dead at the scene, although his identity has not yet been released.
The driver of the stolen pickup exited the vehicle and attempted to steal another vehicle before fleeing on foot. The driver and a passenger in the Acura, a 33-year-old woman from Glen Saint Mary, sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene. A search is ongoing for the driver of the stolen truck, who may have sustained injuries during the crash. The FHP is encouraging anyone with information regarding the driver to reach out to them or Crime Stoppers.
Additionally, on Monday morning, a 48-year-old man from Jacksonville Beach also died in a crash on I-295. He was operating a truck that crashed into the back of a stopped semi-trailer around 8:30 AM. The impact caused the truck to spin, ending up on the right shoulder of the interstate. The driver of the semi-trailer, a 46-year-old man from Orlando, was not injured in this incident. This crash also resulted in the complete shutdown of all lanes on I-295 North at Butler Boulevard while FHP conducted an investigation.
As authorities work to investigate these incidents and more details emerge, the community is reminded of the importance of roadway safety. With multiple fatalities and injuries reported, these incidents serve as a stark reminder of the potential dangers present on the roads.
