News Summary

Habit Burger & Grill is expanding to Jacksonville with three new locations, starting with a Beach Blvd. site. The first restaurant aims to open in late 2025, creating around 40 jobs. The chain, known for its chargrilled burgers and fresh offerings, has gained recognition in recent awards. With renovations underway and additional sites planned, Habit Burger is set to enhance Jacksonville’s dining landscape.

Jacksonville Welcomes Habit Burger & Grill Expansion

Jacksonville is set to welcome the popular fast-casual restaurant chain, Habit Burger & Grill, as the company plans to open three new locations in the city. The first of these establishments will be located at 13559 Beach Blvd., at the site of a former Bojangles restaurant.

The city approved five sign permits for the new restaurant on July 14. First Coast Signs & Lighting Inc., a local contractor, is tasked with installing the signage, which carries a budget of $24,250. Renovation permits issued on May 6 permit Falcon Franchise Construction LLC, based in Fort Lauderdale, to begin remodeling the 3,875-square-foot restaurant and drive-thru facility. This renovation is estimated to cost $715,518.

Prior to renovations, an additional permit was issued on April 8 for preliminary landscaping and site work, costing roughly $10,000. The Beach Blvd. location, situated on a 0.83-acre lot near the Beach Haven area, has sparked significant interest due to Habit Burger’s reputation for quality food offerings.

Plans and Employment Opportunities

Habit Burger & Grill aims to open its Jacksonville location in the second half of 2025. The company cited the region’s growing food culture and increasing demand for comfort food as key factors influencing their decision to expand. The new establishment plans to employ approximately 40 staff members, boosting local job opportunities.

In addition to the Beach Blvd. location, Habit Burger & Grill has plans for two more outlets. One will grace the River City Marketplace at 15022 Max Leggett Parkway, featuring a 2,063-square-foot building complete with a mobile pickup lane, a capacity for 30 seats, and a drive-thru. The site will also accommodate 27 parking spaces, with additional shared parking available for customers.

The third restaurant is being planned for the Baymeadows area at 9171 Baymeadows Road, where it will take over a former Arby’s location.

Company Background

Originally founded in 1969 in Santa Barbara, California, Habit Burger & Grill has expanded to over 380 locations across 14 states and internationally. The chain is well-known for its freshly chargrilled burgers, chicken, and tuna, all cooked to order over an open flame. They also offer a variety of salads and popular desserts, including milkshakes.

In March 2020, the company was acquired by Yum! Brands for $375 million, the same group that owns KFC, Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut. As of June 25, there are currently 379 Habit Burger Grill locations in the United States, including 12 in Florida and one in Clearwater.

In addition to their expansion plans, Habit Burger & Grill has recently received accolades, including the recognition of their Double Char and Tempura Green Beans as number one in USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards for 2024. The chain has also been acknowledged as one of Newsweek’s 2023 America’s Favorite Restaurant Chains.

As the company prepares for its future in Jacksonville, local residents can look forward to an exciting addition to the area’s dining scene.
