Jacksonville, FL Mourns the Loss of Local Real Estate Appraiser and Community Leader Gary Miller

It is with heavy hearts that the Jacksonville community bids farewell to Gary Allen Miller, who passed away at the age of 66. Born on March 1, 1957 in Chattanooga, TN, Gary was the beloved son of Melvin and Virginia Miller, as well as a proud member of a military family. His childhood adventures took him to various places, including Tennessee, Georgia, and Bermuda, before finally making Jacksonville his home.

Gary graduated from Nathan B. Forrest High School in 1975 and later pursued higher education, earning his Associate of Arts degree from Florida Junior College at Jacksonville. His academic journey continued at Jones College, where he obtained his Bachelor’s degree. It was during his time at FJC that he met his future wife, Anne Howard. The two tied the knot in 1977 and celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary in June of this year.

Family Man with a Legacy

Over the years, Gary and Anne built a beautiful family together, welcoming their son Joel, who is now married to Julie and has blessed them with two grandchildren, Evan and Liam. Gary cherished his role as a husband, father, and grandfather, pouring love and support into his family. He is also survived by his brother Guy and sister-in-law Wanda Miller, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A Career Devoted to Real Estate

In the professional realm, Gary enjoyed a flourishing career as a real estate appraiser. Throughout his journey, he worked with several local firms and even with CSX in property remediation and acquisition until 2001. He then went on to establish the Miller Appraisal Group, which he proudly owned and operated until his retirement in 2023. His expertise earned him a respected place in the community, where he was known for his integrity and dedication.

Faith, Music, and Community Involvement

Gary was more than just a professional; he was a devoted Christ-follower and a long-time member of Murray Hill Church. For nearly five decades, he served the church as an elder, deacon, and Sunday school teacher. One of his greatest joys was singing, and he participated in the church choir and the worship team, sharing his musical talent with his congregation. His commitment to faith was matched only by his love for music, and he was an esteemed singer within the community, performing with various organizations such as the Don Thompson Chorale and the River City Men’s Chorus.

In addition to his passion for music, Gary enjoyed spending time with friends at the Eagle Harbor Golf and Country Club, where he formed lasting friendships and shared countless laughs on the golf course. He was also known for his penchant for telling bad jokes and entertaining stories, which brightened the days of those around him.

A Community Remembered

While Gary’s family and friends remember him for his humor, love, and faith, he will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched. A memorial service to honor Gary Miller is scheduled for Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Murray Hill Church. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to be made to the Generation Renovation Building Fund at the church.

The arrangements for Gary are being managed by Hardage-Giddens Rivermead Funeral Home. His legacy will continue to live on through the lives he touched with his faith, commitment to family, and love for music.
