A True Family Man
Chuck, who affectionately referred to his late wife, Marie, as “Dear” or “HRH” (Her Royal Highness), remained devoted to family throughout his life. He leaves behind a legacy of love that includes his six daughters: Ann “D1”, Donna “D2” (Phil), Denise “D3”, D’Arcy “D4”, Danielle “D5” (Bobby), and Danette “D6” (Ed). The family tree continues to blossom with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including a soon-to-arrive great-grandchild lovingly named “Little T”.
Chuck was also preceded in death by significant family members, including his parents, Mary and James Tournoux, as well as two sons-in-law and his granddaughter-in-law. His sister Barb McCartney of Ohio is among those carrying forward cherished memories of their time together. A firm commitment to family was at the core of Chuck’s life, something he instilled in his daughters and their families through every loving gesture he made.
A Life of Service
Having served our nation with honor, Chuck was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, enlisting during World War II after graduating early from high school. His career spanned 20 years, concluding as an Aviation Electrician’s Mate Chief Petty Officer in September 1963. After his military service, Chuck dedicated his time to various roles, including a prominent position with Civil Service at the Marine Corps Engineer School at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina.
One of the highlights of his life was his friendship with Lt.Col. Gary Kenter, a bond akin to that of family. Chuck’s connections expanded beyond military ties, as he later moved to Jacksonville Beach to care for Marie’s ailing mother. The couple thrived in their new atmosphere, making friends through church, engaging in bingo, golf, and leisurely beach strolls.
A Heart of Generosity
Throughout his life, Chuck exemplified the meaning of generosity in often unnoticed ways. His gentle spirit and willingness to lend a hand were traits that endeared him to many in his community. He became an active participant in his faith community and the Knights of Columbus, reflecting his deep trust in God and country.
A Peaceful Close and Grateful Family
After Marie’s death, Chuck called Beach House Assisted Living home, where he spent his final years surrounded by a caring staff who offered him companionship and comfort. His time there included enjoyable activities such as “Wine Down Wednesday”, music events, and challenging crossword puzzles. In the heart of his family, gratitude overflows towards the staff for their support and kindness during Chuck’s stay.
