Jacksonville, Florida – The Gators’ Spring Adventure Begins!

Bright and early on January 28, 2025, the Florida Gators Women’s Golf Team kicked off their spring season with a bang at the Sea Best Intercollegiate tournament, held at the charming San Jose Country Club. As the team tackled the first round, excitement buzzed through the air as they dazzled on the course, showing just why they’re considered a formidable force in collegiate golf.

A Strong Start

The Gators made a splash right out of the gate, achieving an impressive score of -5 in round one. Their stellar performance stood out among the 15 competing schools, giving them the best score of the day. The Gators pulled off an amazing 11 combined birdies, with standout freshman Addison Klonowski shining bright by seamlessly sinking four consecutive birdies on holes 3 through 6. Klonowski’s remarkable play had her temporarily sitting at the top of the individual leaderboard, showcasing the immense talent of this young golfer.

Following this fantastic first round, the team ended day one in a tie with Illinois State, both teams sitting pretty at -7. However, Illinois State really turned heads with their second round, registering a phenomenal 9-under-par score that marked their best round in program history.

Rising Stars

Bouncing back strong, the Gators and their players, particularly Freshman Elaine Widjaja and Sophomore Inès Archer, led all individual competitors after two rounds with scores of 4-under 140. Archer has proven herself with a 2nd place finish at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in 2024, while Widjaja shined with an 8th place finish in the Cougar Classic just last fall. Their continued success is a clear signal that these rising stars are here to stay!

The Final Round Showdown

As everyone eagerly anticipated the final round set to begin on January 30, there was an electric atmosphere surrounding the course. Fans knew that a win would mean not just another trophy for the Gators, but it would mark their third consecutive victory of the 2024-2025 season and a remarkable feat of winning three tournaments in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2015-2017.

A Comeback for the Ages

On January 29, the Gators put on a show that had everyone at the edge of their seats with a thrilling comeback to seize a victory at the Sea Best Intercollegiate! They finished strong at 7-under through 54 holes, triumphing three strokes over Illinois State. At one point during the final round, Florida trailed by five shots, but they weren’t ready to back down. This resilient team rallied together and showed off their tenacity on the course.

Inès Archer captured the spotlight as Florida’s top performer, finishing tied for 4th at 3-under. Clutch performances continued to roll in from the rest of the team, including Freshman Siuue Wu, who recorded her best round of the tournament at 1-under-par. Not to be outdone, Paula Francisco also impressed everyone by shooting -2 with an astounding six birdies!

What’s Next for the Gators?

With this impressive win under their belts, the Florida Gators Women’s Golf team is set to hit the green again soon at the *Therese Hession Regional* kicking off on February 2, 2025. Fans will undoubtedly keep their fingers crossed that this successful streak continues as the Gators swing for more victories.

Stay tuned as this exciting season unfolds, and let’s see what more the Florida Gators can achieve together!
