Jacksonville, FL – A Celebration of Life for Charles Newton Anderson Sr., a veteran and dedicated family man, is scheduled for Sunday, June 22, at 3 PM at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills. Charles, who lived a remarkable 92 years, passed away peacefully and leaves behind a legacy of service, faith, and love for his family.

Born on March 18, 1933, in Wildwood, Florida, Charles was the son of Oral Charlie and Henry Elma Anderson. He spent his early childhood on a farm in Oxford, Florida, and later moved to Medulla and eventually Mulberry, where he graduated from Mulberry High School in 1952. During his high school years, he was an accomplished member of the all-star football team and received valuable mentorship from W.S. Badcock, a local businessman.

Following high school, Charles enlisted in the Air Force and specialized in aircraft maintenance, including training in Germany from 1953 to 1956. His military career spanned two decades, with service at various bases, including sites in Panama City, Arizona, Germany, South Carolina, and Texas. He married Lucy Marsh on January 18, 1957, in Nichols, Florida.

After retiring from the Air Force, he pursued an Associate Degree in Culinary Arts and Hotel Management from Okaloosa-Walton Junior College. Charles went on to work in several sectors, including Morrison’s Cafeteria, offshore rigs in Louisiana, and with major aerospace companies like Boeing, Northrup, and Grummond, including assignments abroad in Saudi Arabia. He eventually returned to Florida, making Jacksonville his home in 1996.

Charles enjoyed a fulfilling post-retirement life, including a role at Northrup-Grummond, where he constructed airplanes in St. Augustine until his full retirement in 2003. He cherished spending time with family, especially through trips with his grandchildren and travels with his wife, Lucy.

His strong faith defined much of his later years. Charles accepted Jesus into his heart in 1967 and was active in his church community, serving as a Deacon and Director of Royal Ambassadors in multiple congregations. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lucy Anderson, and their four children: Kathryn Anderson of Tallahassee, FL; Kimberly Ebbers (Kurt); Kelley Anderson; and Charles Newton Anderson Jr. (“Chuck”), all residing in Jacksonville.

Charles was also the proud grandfather of five, including Charles Newton Anderson III (Yexenia) from Jacksonville; Amanda Sue Anderson (Joe) from Lexington, KY; Zachary Luke Ebbers (Emma) from St. Louis, MO; along with Chase Logan Ebbers and Harrison Jude Ebbers, both from Jacksonville. In addition to grandchildren, he is survived by several great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents and several siblings, including George Kimbell Anderson, Norman Gerald Anderson, Patricia Katherine Roark, and Vonda Sue Mills. His family expresses deep gratitude to the staff at the Mayo Clinic and their friends for their support during his later years.

A private family visitation is planned for 1 PM on the day of the celebration, followed by an invitation for friends at 2 PM. The family looks forward to honoring Charles’s life and legacy with those who held him dear.
