Following the service, a Celebration of Life will take place at 3:30 p.m. at the Terrace room at Margaritaville, located at 715 1st St N, Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250.
Shawn, 48, was born on February 21, 1977, in Jacksonville, Florida. He spent his life deeply rooted in the Jacksonville community, contributing to both local professional and volunteer efforts. A graduate of the University of North Florida, Shawn worked as an Electrical Engineer at JEA from 2003 until his death.
In addition to his professional career, Shawn was dedicated to community service. He volunteered with the Volunteer Life Saving Corps from 1993 to 2000, demonstrating his commitment to public safety and the welfare of others. Outside of work and volunteer activities, Shawn was known for his love of the outdoors, particularly fishing and exploring nature.
Shawn is survived by his wife, Liz, with whom he shared 16 years of marriage. He is also survived by his two children: his daughter, Lorelei, and son, William. His parents, Pam and Carl Parnell, also survive him, along with his brother Carl III and sister-in-law Elizabeth, and their three children named Carl IV, Joseph, and Sarah. Additionally, his grandfather, Howard Crowe, and grandmother, Peggy Parnell, as well as in-laws Salvator and Kasey Giustra, also survive him.
As a way to honor Shawn’s memory, the family has requested that in lieu of flowers, people should cherish their time with loved ones and spend time outdoors, reflecting Shawn’s appreciation for nature and the connections between individuals.
