Allan Decker, 92, Remembered as a Pioneer in Counseling and Community Leadership Following His Passing in Jacksonville, Florida
Jacksonville, Florida, has lost a remarkable member of its community with the passing of Allan Decker, who left this world peacefully on September 7, 2025. At the impressive age of 92, Allan made a significant impact on countless lives through his dedication to counseling, our communities, and of course, his undeniable kindness and generosity.
A Journey Through Life
Born in the heart of Washington D.C. on July 11, 1933, Allan attended Coolidge High School where his path towards helping others began to take shape. He later achieved a degree in Pharmacy from George Washington University, kickstarting his career as a pharmacist in his home city. Allan worked diligently, eventually becoming the proud owner of Mt. Vernon Pharmacy in Alexandria, Virginia.
What set Allan apart was his innovative spirit. He didn’t just operate a pharmacy; he transformed it into a thriving surgical supply dealership. Such entrepreneurial flair showcased his ability to not only think outside the box but also adapt to the evolving needs of his community.
Transition into Counseling
After successfully running his pharmacy business, Allan decided it was time to pivot his career toward a field he was deeply passionate about—counseling. He pursued a master’s degree in Social Work from Catholic University, solidifying his commitment to helping others in a more direct way. Allan found his calling in counseling and hypnotherapy, touching the lives of many who sought his guidance.
A Champion for Men’s Connection
One of the most exciting chapters in Allan’s professional journey was his involvement in the Mythopoetic Men’s Movement. This movement sought to help men explore their identities and foster deeper connections. As a testament to this mission, he founded the Men’s Council of Jacksonville, a place where men could come together to share, grow, and learn from one another.
Even during the trying times of the COVID-19 pandemic, Allan proved his resilience and dedication by continuing to provide counseling services online, even into his late 80s. His ability to adapt during such uncertain times exemplified his unwavering commitment to those he served.
A Loving Family Man
Allan’s rich life was also marked by a strong family bond. He is survived by his beloved wife, Kassy, and his children Mona, Phil, Mikki, and Erin. His family tree boasts numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry on his legacy of compassion and strength. He was also supported by his siblings, Karen and Bobby. Sadly, Allan was predeceased by his parents, Lena and Louis, as well as his stepson, Michael.
The Final Goodbye
His strong Jewish identity was beautifully reflected in his final wishes. Allan requested a traditional Jewish funeral, which will be conducted by none other than his daughter, Mona, who is a rabbi. Friends and family will gather for a graveside service on September 11, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Saint Joseph Cemetery in Jacksonville to pay their respects and celebrate a life well-lived.
