News Summary

Aventuur has proposed a $20 million surf park project in Jacksonville, featuring a wave-generating lagoon and various recreational amenities. Spanning 44.85 acres, the park aims to enhance the local surf culture and drive economic growth by including residential options and community spaces. Construction is expected to start in early 2026, with an opening set for early 2028, pending regulatory approvals.

Jacksonville is set to potentially welcome a new surf park, with developers submitting a design proposal for a $20 million lagoon at 11525 ETown Parkway. The project aims to create a self-contained resort that not only offers surfing opportunities but also includes numerous recreational amenities.

The proposed surf park, which will occupy 44.85 acres southwest of the Florida 9B and Interstate 295 interchange, is owned by Aventuur Jax Propco LLC. The development’s appointed civil engineer is Prosser | Prime AE. If regulatory approvals are granted, construction is anticipated to commence in early 2026, with an official opening slated for early 2028.

The centerpiece of the Jacksonville Surf Park will be a wave-generating lagoon known as the Wavegarden Cove. This innovative facility boasts the ability to produce up to 1,000 waves per hour in a controlled environment, catering to surfers of all skill levels. In addition to the lagoon, the surf park will comprise several essential components, including:

  • A service yard
  • E-Houses for computer services
  • Transformers and other electrical equipment housed on structural pads
  • A maintenance building
  • An outdoor spare parts container
  • A water treatment building
  • Electrical enclosures
  • A covered outdoor chemical storage area
  • Stair platforms to access the wave machine
  • Other miscellaneous site improvements

Further planning documents are expected to address civil engineering, hardscape/landscape developments, and additional site amenities, ensuring that the park is fully equipped to serve visitors.

Beyond the surfing lagoon, the Jacksonville Surf Park will encompass outdoor recreational spaces, office areas, restaurants, shops, a dedicated surf school, and bungalow accommodations. This comprehensive approach aims to enhance the overall surfing and coastal lifestyle in Jacksonville. The project is particularly notable as it will mark Aventuur’s first surf park in the United States.

The land was acquired by Aventuur and its partners for approximately $21.1 million from Westland Timber LLC, which is associated with the Davis family, on June 2, 2025. The acquisition represents a significant move in Aventuur’s efforts to roll out mixed-use surf, leisure, and wellbeing destinations throughout North America.

Support for the project has come from various local entities, including The PARC Group, Jacksonville City Council, district Council member Raul Arias, and the office of Mayor Donna Deegan. The initiative aims not only to foster a vibrant surf culture but also to drive economic growth in the region, contributing to job creation and increased tourism.

In addition to recreational opportunities, the surf park plans to include multifamily residential options and community spaces, emphasizing a connection to local surf and beach culture. Sustainability will be a key consideration, with plans to incorporate native landscaping, preserved vegetation, and recycled materials throughout the construction process.

Local developers, engineers, and contractors, committed to creating a community-focused surf park, are enhancing efforts to align the development with the diverse needs of Jacksonville’s residents and surf enthusiasts. The overarching goal of the Jacksonville Surf Park project is to bolster the region’s surf culture while simultaneously promoting economic development.
