Marathon Challenge in Antarctica

While gearing up for this educational event, Carson is also preparing for a personal challenge. In March, she plans to participate in the Antarctic Ice Marathon on King George Island, just a few hundred miles from the South Pole. This marathon marks her 21st marathon, as she seeks to complete races across every continent. Carson has already finished marathons in North America, Asia, and Europe, and she aims to compete in South America, Africa, and Australia in the future.

Personal Background

Born in Cuba, Carson left the country with her parents in 1983 at the age of 15. After arriving in Montreal, Canada, her family sought asylum, facing numerous challenges, including language barriers and cultural adjustments. To overcome these hurdles, Carson attended an immersion school in Montreal to learn English and French. She later pursued her education at junior college and then McGill University, where she navigated economic difficulties while striving for academic success.

Eventually, Carson became a physical therapist and married her husband, Jeff, who shares her profession. After moving to Florida for job opportunities, she transitioned from a work visa to a green card, ultimately obtaining U.S. citizenship. Inspired by the attorneys who assisted her during her immigration journey, Carson attended Florida Coastal School of Law in Jacksonville. In 2005, she established a corporate immigration practice at Marks Gray, addressing the growing demand for immigration services in Northeast Florida.

Community Involvement

Carson believes that immigrants bring innovation and determination, significantly benefiting the economy. She works closely with businesses to recruit international talent and maintains strong relationships with her clients. In addition to her legal practice, she has actively participated in community organizations, including the Jacksonville Children’s Chorus and the Jacksonville Aviation Authority.

During the pandemic, Carson took the initiative to combat social isolation by organizing programs such as walking and line-dancing groups. She views her life’s work as an opportunity to enjoy each moment while making meaningful contributions to her community.

Through her leadership in the upcoming CLE program and her commitment to personal and professional challenges, Giselle Carson exemplifies the qualities of resilience and dedication that have defined her journey as an immigrant and a professional in the legal field.
