Jacksonville Man Shot and Killed by Police in St. Marys Following Terroristic Threats Call

ST. MARYS, GA – A man from Jacksonville, Florida, was shot and killed by police on Sunday evening, August 3, 2025, in an incident that has raised concerns about police use of force and calls for transparency from residents of the area. The deceased, Gregory Paige, 27, was pronounced dead at Southeast Georgia Health System Camden Hospital after police were dispatched to the Cumberland Oaks apartment complex in response to a 911 call regarding alleged terroristic threats.

The emergency call was made at approximately 11:06 p.m. by a female victim who reported that Paige had threatened to kill her and any law enforcement officials who responded to the situation. The victim relayed that Paige had been consuming alcohol and had physically intimidated her by grabbing her arm. Furthermore, she stated that Paige had warned of a potential shootout with police if they arrived.

Officers arrived at the complex after first making contact with the caller at a nearby Dollar Tree. Upon arriving at the Cumberland Oaks, officers sought to establish communication with Paige, but initial attempts to reach him at the apartment door were unsuccessful. Officers then requested the victim to return with a key to the apartment, facilitating further contact.

When police finally made contact with Paige, he was found standing in a poorly lit doorway. According to reports, officers commanded him to raise his hands and turn around. However, Paige expressed fear for his life and refused to comply with their orders. During the encounter, he reportedly lunged backward and drew his right hand from behind his back, pointing it toward the officers present.

In response to Paige’s actions, Officers O’Brien and Dexter discharged their firearms, striking him multiple times. Officer Dexter reported firing between six to eight rounds during the incident. Medical assistance was provided immediately after the shooting, and Paige was transported to the local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The police report does not clarify whether Paige was armed at the time of the shooting. Investigators from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) are currently looking into the case, and when the investigation is complete, it will be submitted to the Brunswick District Attorney’s Office for further examination.

The incident has left residents of the Cumberland Oaks complex shocked, with many calling for more transparency regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting. There were no injuries reported to officers involved in the encounter, but the situation has raised numerous questions regarding police conduct and the use of deadly force.

As of now, it remains uncertain whether body camera footage exists from the incident that could provide more clarity into the events leading up to the shooting. Moreover, questions about whether Gregory Paige wielded a weapon during the confrontation are still unanswered.

As the community grapples with the aftermath of this tragic event, the GBI’s investigation aims to provide the facts surrounding the incident and determine the appropriate course of action moving forward.
