JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jaguars turned a wet Sunday at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville into a rout, beating the Indianapolis Colts 42-7 and opening a three-game cushion atop the AFC South.

Jacksonville led 28-0 at the half and never gave Indianapolis a way back. The win lifted the Jaguars to 5-2, while the Colts fell to 2-6 with a fourth straight loss. Houston, idle this week at 2-5, now sits three games back.

Trevor Lawrence needed only 14 throws to do his damage. He completed 10 for 210 yards and three scores with no interceptions before giving way early in the fourth quarter. His first touchdown capped a 98-yard march on the opening drive, when he found a wide-open Brian Thomas Jr. deep in the end zone. Rookie tight end Nate Boerkircher added a 31-yard scoring catch before the break.

Bhayshul Tuten carried the ground game. The running back broke three tackles on a 39-yard touchdown run, then took a screen pass in for another score as the third quarter ran out. He finished with career highs of 104 rushing yards and 55 receiving yards, and the Jaguars piled up a season-best 183 yards on the ground. Chris Rodriguez Jr. also ran one in to make it 35-0.

The defense delivered its own highlight when safety Rayuan Lane III picked off a pass and raced 92 yards to the end zone with only 10 seconds showing before halftime. Indianapolis star back Jonathan Taylor was held to 23 yards on eight carries and lost a fumble on a trick play that went wrong.

The day carried a cost. Nose tackle DaVon Hamilton hurt his right knee in the second quarter, was taken off on a cart and was ruled out soon after. The injury looked serious.

Jacksonville has now beaten the Colts 12 straight times at home, and Indianapolis has not won in Jacksonville since 2014. The 35-point margin matched the Jaguars’ biggest win in the series. The crowd was 42,156, and the team wore its new rivalry uniforms for the first time.

The Jaguars now head out for three road games and do not return home until a Nov. 29 matchup with the Tennessee Titans.
